Who We Are

We grew up with a desire to go to faraway places, see fascinating things, and meet interesting people. Nothing’s changed, except that now we take our cameras with us. We care about making videos that transcend time and trend, and move minds and bodies. This is who we are.

Build Films was founded in 2013 by Christopher Paetkau, Trevor Gill, and Carlyle Paetkau. Since then we’ve worked to produce memorable videos with amazing people, organizations, and brands such as the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Oceans North Canada, and Travel Manitoba to name a few.

Trevor Gill

Creative Director

Trevor Gill is our eyes and ears. He’s a director, cinematographer, musician, and editor. For him, life is a quest for knowledge collected through experiences, adventure and the meeting of minds. A camera in hand affords him the opportunity to travel, tell stories and meet people. He has shot and directed television ads, commercial projects, and documentaries for organizations like the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Travel Manitoba, Aboriginal Peoples Television Network, and Oceans North. He graduated as a Media Production major in the Creative Communications program at Red River College following a diploma in Enhanced Photography at Red River College.

Christopher Paetkau

Christopher is a wanderlust in life and thought who’s taught English in Korea, filmed polar bears and beluga whales up north, and worked down south in Burma and Australia. He holds a degree in philosophy, and a diploma in media production. He looks for places where dominant scripts, narratives, and angles unravel and where imagination begins. He’s shot and/or directed for Travel Manitoba, Oceans North, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Parks Canada, and more. He’s also had films screen in the National Geographic All Roads International Film Festival, the Banff Mountain Film Festival, the Wild & Scenic Film Festival among others.

Carlyle Paetkau

Carlyle Paetkau is a numbers guy. He graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a B.B.A in Accounting and a B.A. in Economics. He estimates, counts, plans, schedules, budgets, and fixes problems we didn’t even know we had. His brain runs on pure logic, except when he’s on his motorcycle.

Oh, and he can act too… but no drama roles please.
